Tento kurz je určen pro studenty, kteří mají zájem o upevnění dovedností v anglickém jazyce a mezikulturní komunikaci. V kurzu budou mít možnost pracovat osobně na hodinách i mimo ně s tématy kultura, identita, hodnoty, kulturní rozdíly, kulturní šok, kultura v pracovním prostředí atd. Výuka v hodinách se realizuje převážně formou diskuze, reflexe, sebehodnocení a zpětné vazby. Celkově se kurz zaměřuje na vnímání mezikulturnosti a vědomé práce na mezikulturních kompetencích v komunikaci, v kontextu anglického jazyka, tedy v prostředí podporujícím rozvoj dovedností v anglickém jazyce, převážně v práci s autentickými materiály.

This course provides opportunity for students to enhance their English and intercultural communication skills by participating in class and out-of-class exploration of topics such as culture, identity, cultural identity, values, cultural differences or culture shock. Activities in class include discussions, debriefing of activities in and out-of-class, self-assessment and feedback. The focus is overall on improving intercultural awareness and conscious work on intercultural competence as a lifelong quest, while practicing English language skills and expanding their language competencies through work with authentic materials and instructor feedback.

International English as a lingua franca
Cultural Identity – what culture am I part of?

Cíl předmětu -
Tento kurz je vhodný pro studenty, kteří chtějí
- zvýšit důvěru ve své komunikační schopnosti v AJ
- zefektivnit svou komunikaci v mezikulturním prostředí
- zefektivnit komunikaci a použití strategií a jazykových prostředků jako objasňování, parafrázování, vyjednávání a srozumitelnost komunikace
- zvýšit sebevědomí při používání složitějších jazykových prostředků v AJ
- zlepšit dovednosti v AJ - čtení, psaní, poslech a mluvení
- poznat lépe svou osobní kulturní identitu, hodnoty a předpojatosti
- poznávat kulturní identity jiné, navazovat kontakt se členy odlišných kulturních zázemí
- zvýšit schopnost identifikovat a porozumět svým emocím, reakcím a přesvědčením
- zvýšit schopnost porozumět chování, emocím, reakcím a přesvědčením jiných
- zlepšit schopnost řešit napětí, konfliktní situace nebo pracovat s kulturním šokem
- připravit se nebo reflektovat vlastní akademickou nebo profesní zkušenost v mezinárodním prostředí.

The course is ideal for both Czech and international students who want to:
- gain confidence in using English as a language of interpersonal communication,
- become more effective in intercultural communication,
- communicate more effectively by using language functions such as clarification, paraphrasing, and negotiation to ensure clear communication,
- increase confidence in using more complex vocabulary and grammatical structures to speak about both physical and abstract concepts (e.g. behavior, beliefs and emotions) when engaging in authentic intercultural interactions, expressing cultural perspectives, and interpreting behavior in English,
- explore other cultural identities, network and build cross-cultural relationships,
- improve English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking through engaging with course materials, participating in discussions, and completing assignments,
- increase awareness of own cultural identity, biases and values,
- increase ability to make sense of own emotions, reactions and beliefs,
- increase ability to make sense of other’s emotions and behavior,
- increase effectiveness in resolving tension, conflict or dealing with culture shock,
- prepare for or reflect on an international academic, personal or work experience.

Kurz je zakončen zápočtem a ohodnocen 3 kredity, který je udělován po splnění následujících podmínek.
