As might be clear from the syllabus, each session is devoted to specific topics highlighting different segments of Heschelʼs thought that have had their impact on the articulation of his philosophy. In the last four sessions the main principles of his general philosophy of religion and philosophy of Judaism will be discussed. Each title is illustrated with quotations from Heschelʼs texts that serve as the motto for the respective themes. |

The tutor will present the respective theme in its historical, biographical and philosophical context, and will highlight the main features of Heschelʼs thought. Students will be given handouts with brief textual references; they will be encouraged to read excerpts from books available on Moodle before each session. |

An active participation in the sessions will be required. The course will be completed by an exam: Students shall submit a final essay of 2,000 words on the topic consulted with the tutor in advance; the paper will be then discussed with the examiner. Good knowledge of the chosen topic in a larger context will be required, new insights will be appreciated. |
