Anotace
Poslední úprava: Mgr. Ivan Kafka (10.10.2019)
The course introduces participants to the essential topics addressed by Israel studies today, in particular as they
relate to the society, culture, gender, and religion of the modern State of Israel. Specific emphasis is placed on the
controversies surrounding the integration of minorities and minority rights, with a view towards the country’s
legislation. The course will also look at Jewish society’s current divisions along ethnic lines and their implications
on socio-cultural processes. Attention is further paid to the interaction between Israel and the diaspora, including
disputes over halakhic practices. The course concludes with a discussion of possible future developments while
taking into account social and demographic data and the turbulent situation in the Middle East.

The course is accompanied by a screening of commented excerpts of contemporary Israeli cinematography.

The course is divided into four blocks:
November 4 (Monday) 8:20-12:50
November 28 (Thursday) 14:10-18:40
December 3 (Tuesday) 10:50-15:20
December 17 (Tuesday) 12:50-17:20
