Entrance examination: Two part

Content and subject matter of entrance examination; the second round of the entrance examination will be conducted in Russian and partially in English (source material for discussion is based on the mandatory attachments provided by the applicant):

First part

Dissertation project evaluation without the applicant's presence; assessments criteria:

• clearly formulated and highly professional, with only minor shortcomings: 23–30 points
• clearly formulated and highly professional, with more serious shortcomings, though acceptable: 15–22 points
• weak and unpersuasive, likelihood of successfully implementation of the proposal is only hypothetical: 7–14 points
• completely insufficient, suggesting non-existent grounding in the topic: 0–6 points

Second part – Oral interview

a) Discussion of submitted proposal for PhD dissertation (topic, conceptual focus and methodological approach of the dissertation project, applicant's problem solving ability regarding the project's research and self-sufficiency in research activities in general, comprehensive understanding of secondary literature relating to the proposed dissertation project, practical realization of the project etc.) and assessment of the applicant’s knowledge of secondary literature: 0–15 points
b) Assessment of the applicant’s previous research, and other academic activities: 0–5 points
c) Assessment of the applicant’s knowledge of secondary literature: 0–10 points

Part of the application for a doctoral study programme accredited in a non-Czech-language are following mandatory attachments (applicants must state their first and last name, name of the study programme they are applying for, and title of the submitted project for a prepared dissertation in the header of a first page of every mandatory attachment):

a) project for a prepared dissertation in the range of 3–5 standard pages; the topic of the dissertation project is selected by the applicant from the areas or topics specified in the information system or the applicant chooses the topic individually; the chosen topic is consulted in advance by the applicant with the chair of the relevant subject-area board or the contact person specified in the academic requirements for individual study programmes (section 16 RAS), the name of the consultant is then stated in the project;

b) structured curriculum vitae;

c) list of literature corresponding to the study programme;

d) overview of existing academic activities (publication activities, internships, etc.);

e) proof of language competence, i.e. scan of any of the following documents of language competence in the foreign language in which the study programme is accredited: secondary school-leaving examination with a curriculum realised in the relevant foreign language; proof of completion of any university degree programme accredited in the relevant foreign language; proof of successful completion of any certified examination in the relevant foreign language at B2 level or higher according to the list in the appendix to these Requirements, proof of completion of a language examination in the relevant foreign language at B2 level or higher, completed as part of any university course; for graduates of the Faculty of Arts or other faculties of Charles University, a relevant document generated from the information system may be submitted instead of a certified copy. The list of language certificates recognised by the University is attached to these Requirements. Along with the language in which the study programme is accredited, courses might be conducted in a language logically related to the given study programme or the dissertation project. In such cases, language competence in a related language is examined during the entrance examination (section 16 RAS).

Приемный экзамен: два тура

Содержание, предмет приемного экзамена: второй этап проходит на русском языке и частично на английском языке (исходным материалом являются приложения, которые поступающий обязан был приложить к заявлению на обучение):

Первая часть

Оценка проекта диссертационной работы; критерии оценки:

• Доступно и ясно сформулированный и отвечающий критериям специальности проект, имеющий незначительные недостатки: 23-30 баллов
• Доступно и ясно сформулированный и отвечающий критериям специальности проект, имеющий некоторые недостатки, но в приемлемой форме: 15-22 баллов
• Слабый и неубедительный проект, шансы на успешное завершение проекта лишь гипотетические: 7-14- баллов
• Неудовлетворительный проект, без какой-либо ориентации в проблематике: 0-6 баллов

Вторая (устная) часть

а) Дискуссия по специальности по предложенному проекту диссертационной работы (тематическая, концептуальная и методологическая структура диссертационного проекта, компетентность поступающего для реализации проекта и для самостоятельной научной работы в целом, осведомлённость о научной литературе, связанной с предполагаемым проектом, практическая осуществимость проекта и др.) и демонстрация знания научной литературы: 0-15 баллов
б) Оценка достигнутого профессионального уровня и уровня образования соискателя: 0-5 баллов
в) Знание литературы по специальности: 0-10 баллов

документ, подтверждающий языковую компетентность, т. е. скан одного из следующих документов, подтверждающих владение иностранным языком, на котором аккредитирована программа, является обязательным приложением к заявлению: аттестат о среднем образовании, полученном в образовательной программе, реализованной на данном иностранном языке; документ о завершении любой высшей образовательной программы, аккредитованной на данном иностранном языке; документ об успешной сдаче любого сертифицированного экзамена по данному иностранному языку на уровне B2 или выше согласно списку, приведённому в приложении к данным условиям; документ о сдаче языкового экзамена по данному иностранному языку на уровне B2 или выше, выполненного в рамках любого высшего образования. Выпускники Философского факультета или других факультетов Карлова университета могут вместо заверенной копии предоставить соответствующий документ, сгенерированный из информационной системы. Список признаваемых языковых сертификатов является приложением к данным условиям.

Graduates are equipped with a solid grounding in the topic of their doctoral dissertation in addition to expertise and skills resulting from the relationship between the student’s specialization and related linguistic disciplines. Graduates have debating skills in German, English and Czech or, alternatively, Italian, being able to talk about specialized topics, present their results at international conferences and further develop their theoretical knowledge. They have experience with publication and editing activities and grant project management. The programme trains for independent scientific work, preparing graduates for careers in the academia as well as culture or politics at international level (work for cultural institutions, diplomatic service, EU bodies etc.). Graduates’ ability to work internationally results from an intensive co-operation with the partner university.
