      The entrance examination is a one-round interview that focuses on professional knowledge, previous scientific and research activities and motivation to study the chosen doctoral programme.
      The interview consists in two parts:
      1/ A short (maximum five-minute) presentation in English of the applicant's background and the topic of the dissertation project (background, hypotheses, project schedule, material and methods, expected results and financial framework of the project). The presentation of the future project must be without a pre-prepared presentation.
      2/ Questions from the members of the committee on the topic of the thesis in the wider context of zoology. Follow-up questions from the committee may be in English or Czech and should be answered by the candidate in the language.

      The applicant must demonstrate scientific expertise and capability of independent scientific work.

      The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points. In order to be admitted to part-time (‚combined‘) study form, the applicant must obtain the minimum number of points required for passing the entrance examination, which is the same as the minimum number of points required for admission.
      The minimum number of points required for passing the entrance examination for full-time as well as part-time study form is set to 50 points.

      Graduates are specialists in zoology. It covers of multiple fields from protozoology, invertebrate zoology, entomology, vertebrate zoology to primatology and human studies. The methodologies include: taxonomy, phylogenetics and evolution, population genetics and genomics, morphology and evo-devo, ethology and behavioural sciences, evolutionary psychology, animal ecology and conservation. Each graduate is competent in a certain combination of methodological approaches and studied taxa. The graduates already demonstrated their ability to perform excellent research and to publish the results in scientific journals. They are experienced in preparation of the projects and grant applications, coordination of the team, reporting the results, writing papers, lecturing and international scientific communication.
