The entrance examination is a one-round interview that focuses on professional knowledge, previous scientific and research activities and motivation to study the chosen doctoral programme.
The entrance examination assesses the applicants' orientation in cell and developmental biology and their ability to critically discuss the topics of their current and intended scientific work, i.e. their Master's and planned PhD projects. The entrance examination consists of two parts:
1. presentation of the results of the Master's project in English using a prepared presentation, followed by a discussion.
2. Presentation of the planned PhD project followed by a discussion. The candidate may use a prepared presentation summarising the main objectives, hypotheses tested, methods used and significance. The admissions committee evaluates the applicant's ability to think critically about technical issues related to the project. Committee members may ask questions regarding the candidate's motivation to study the chosen topic/field.
A summary of the topics offered is also posted on the Department of Cell Biology website (

The applicant must demonstrate scientific expertise and capability of independent scientific work.
The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points. In order to be admitted to part-time (‚combined‘) study form, the applicant must obtain the minimum number of points required for passing the entrance examination, which is the same as the minimum number of points required for admission.
The minimum number of points required for passing the entrance examination for full-time as well as part-time study form is set to 50 points.
