Doktorský studijní program Experimentální intenzívní medicína je určen pro uchazeče a uchazečky se zájmem o experimentální práci, výzkum, vývoj a inovaci v oblasti kritických stavů, perioperační medicíny a přístrojové a multiorgánové podpory. Program je určen pro lékaře i nelékařské zdravotnické profesionály a klade důraz na metodologii, kritické myšlení a orientaci na budoucí směry a inovace v intenzívní péči. Cílem je poskytnout ucelené vzdělání, které kombinuje teoretické poznatky s praktickou aplikací, a připravit účastníky k vedení výzkumných projektů a efektivní komunikaci výsledků.
Intenzivní péče (Intensive Care Medicine) je vědecké odvětví v rámci klasifikace FORD (Fields of Research and Development),kde spadá do širší kategorie "Lékařské a zdravotnické vědy", konkrétně do podoboru "Klinické vědy". Intenzívní péče se věnuje výzkumu etiologie, diagnostiky a léčby život ohrožujících stavů vyžadujících sofistikovanou podporu životních funkcí a monitorování a též perioperační péči. Zvláštní pozornost je věnována výzkumu specifických syndromů, které se typicky vyskytují u kriticky nemocných jako je např. ARDS (adult respiratory distress syndrom) nebo svalová slabost kriticky nemocných. Přesahy disciplíny Intensive Care Medicine vedou od základního výzkumu, přes public health (zvláště neinfekční epidemiologii) až po prakticky všechny základní klinické obory.

The entrance exam takes the form of a brief presentation of the project in English (max. 7 slides and 7 min.) followed by an oral interview in Czech or English, according to the applicant's choice. The participation of the intended supervisor - if appointed - is recommended. The student's eligibility for scientific work in the field and his/her ability to successfully complete the study are assessed.
The evaluation is based on the following criteria:
1. The quality and originality of the dissertation proposal, the clarity and clear formulation of the research question and hypotheses, the quality and specificity of the methodology and its consistency with the research question: 0-30 points.
2. The feasibility of the submitted project is evaluated according to the following criteria:
(a) Realistic plan for obtaining research data within the given timeframe (e.g. recruitment of patients, samples, etc.): 0-10 points,
b) "Dedicated research time": the applicant's assumption and willingness to devote exclusive time to the project and whether they have a specific plan to do so: 0-15 points,
c) Financial security of the project or the expectation of obtaining it: 0-5 points.
3. Previous research activities: publications, conference presentations, participation in a student research conference, etc.: 0-5 points.
4. Cooperative dimension of the project: Potential for scientific cooperation between disciplines and research institutions (national and international).
a) Cooperation of several institutions in the project: 0-5 points,
b) Plan for a study abroad placement: 0-10 points,
c) Active knowledge of English by the candidate: 0-10 points.
5. The candidate's motivation, knowledge of the chosen topic and ability to discuss it critically: 0-10 points.
A score of more than 50 points is required to pass the entrance examination.

In order to be admitted to full-time study, a candidate must obtain the minimum number of points required for successful completion of the entrance examination and the minimum number of points required for admission.

Admission to Doctoral studies is conditioned by successful completion of a Master's study programme.

Absolvent/absolventka programu Experimentální intenzívní medicína bude znát principy metodologie vědecké práce v oblasti kritických stavů a multiorgánové podpory. Vyžaduje se základní přehled v celém rozsahu výzkumu (tzv. bench to bedside), od základního přes translační až po aplikovaný vč. klinického. Hluboká znalost je vyžadována u metodologie vlastní práce. Absolvent/absolventka studijního programu umí kriticky hodnotit informace, osvojil(a) si technické i netechnické dovednosti nutné pro vedení týmu a vidí perspektivu dalšího rozvoje ve své oblasti specializace. Kromě akademické kariéry je vybaven(a) též pro vedoucí a koordinační funkce ve svém oboru.
