      entrance examination: two rounds

      content and subject matter of entrance examination:

      first round (max. 30 points): assessment of thesis project

      During the first round, the examining board will assess the submitted proposals based on their quality and compatibility with the topics identified as priority for the specific academic year.

      assessment criteria:

      • clearly formulated and highly professional, with only minor shortcomings: 23–30 points;
      • clearly formulated and highly professional, with more serious shortcomings, though acceptable: 15–22 points;
      • weak and unpersuasive, likelihood of successfully implementation of the proposal is only hypothetical: 7–14 points;
      • completely insufficient, suggesting non-existent grounding in the topic: 0–6 points.

      All applicants who acquire at least 15 points in the first part are invited to the second part.

      second (oral) part (max. 30 points)

      1. Discussion of submitted proposal for PhD dissertation: 0–20 points
      2. Assessment of the applicant’s previous academic activities: 0–10 points

      The discussion of the proposal will focus on the following:

      • goals of the dissertation research,
      • theoretical and methodological foundations of the proposal,
      • feasibility of the research and its limits.

      The thematic focus of dissertation projects is based on the student’s own proposal, which must reflect the current standard of research in one out of five fields (Security Science; Financial Technologies and Services; Digital Anthropology; Law and Data: Research and Policy; Language Technologies).

      Applicants can request to sit the examination in the form of a remote oral eaxmination for serious and substantiated reasons through the information system, with a deadline of 30/04/2025.

      Graduates from the programme are trained to be capable of dealing with a wide range of issues that are a result of digitalisation of various areas of society. The cornerstone of the structure of graduates’ competences is their training in computational methods required to study digital social phenomena. Broadly conceived, these methods include data mining and machine learning, but also methods from security studies, media studies, economics, law anthropology that enable the graduates to analyze a wide spectrum of phenomena that contribute to rapid transformation of society driven by digitalisation. Graduates are expected to find employment at public institutions that handle the data dimensions of digitalisation, private companies offering services and products for the digital market, universities and other scholarly institutions that study the digital transition.
