The Study program Experimental surgery is aimed at studying the theoretical foundations of medical disciplines that use surgical procedures in the broadest sense. The topic of the research are molecular, structural, metabolic and pathophysiological changes of damaged cells, tissues and organs which take place during the development of pathological processes, possibly with their experimental induction, and which are surgically affected. Special attention is paid to issues of reparations and healing of various tissue structures. These processes will be explored in genetical, immunological and endocrinological context. Based on the above specialization, experimental surgery will be established topics for graduate studies in various medical fields (disciplines - surgery, orthopedics, urology, plastic surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, otorhinolaryngology). Specific topics in various specializations will be determined by the supervisor always combined clinical and theoretical work.

The entrance examination takes place before the committee in the form of an oral interview and verifies the applicant's eligibility for scientific work in the field, the meaningfulness and feasibility of the project he/she is applying for. The number of members of the committee is set out in Article 6(7) of the Regulations.
Evaluation criteria:
1. quality of the dissertation project and the level of its elaboration - maximum 40 points.
The dissertation project must contain the following elements:
- Title and subtitle
- Hypothesis and objectives of the thesis - a specific statement of the candidate's work
- Basic thesis (briefly in 5 sentences)
- Research methodology - method of data collection, duration of the project, methodology of the solution (markers to be observed, technique, sampling intervals, etc.), statistical evaluation, expected results of the research
- Details of the site where the experimental research will be carried out (name of the clinic and specific site)
- Specific financial support for the project
- Literature used
2. Interview of the applicant's expertise, where the scope and profile of the expertise will be assessed
of the candidate's interest and ability to draw out in an oral interview the basic content and issues of the titles studied, assessing their relevance to research in the field - max. 20 points.
3. Previous professional (scientific) activity in the surgical field. Previous activities related to the project or other scientific work, preferably publications and lectures (SVK and other scientific conferences), participation in grant projects - max. 20 points.
4. Financial support of the project. Financial support - grant (grant application does not mean financial support of the project), research plan, sponsorship of the proposed scientific project is bonused as well as written agreement of the principal investigator to financially support the applicant's project - max. 20 points.
5. Written opinion of the principal investigator and ev. investigator with the collaboration of experimental research on experimental ev. The applicant must have a v.v. from an accredited institute. The written statement of the supervisor or principal investigator with collaboration on the project must be included in the application.
6. Each project must be supported by an ethics committee statement. The document will be attached in written form.
The presence of the supervisor at the interview is recommended.
The scoring is done by each member of the committee. The requirements listed in points 5 - 6 are part of the documentation submitted by the applicant to the Dean of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University by 30 April 2025. These documents are then noted by the committee.
A minimum score of 50 points is required to pass the entrance examination. In order to be admitted to full-time study, the applicant must obtain the minimum number of points for successful completion of the entrance examination and at the same time obtain the minimum number of points required for admission.

Graduates in Experimental surgery Postgraduate Doctor degree studies in Biomedical Sciences (PhD programs) are usually physicians who have deep knowledge of theoretical disciplines, and control the basic and the advanced laboratory techniques. The graduates should be able to build a hypothesis, select appropriate methods to test the scientific hypothesis, to interpret the results of their work, to publish in scientific journals (with impact factor) and to present the result on scientific symposia and congesses. Graduates in PhD program in Experimental surgery have excellent qualification to advance with his/her career in surgery and to achieve university degrees.
The duration of doctoral degree programs (PhD. programs) in biomedicine is at least 4 years, with the possibility to participate on international projects.
