Neuroscience occupy a special position in the system of scientific fields due to high specificity of functional neural tissue that significantly differs from other tissues in almost all observable parameters at all levels. Added to this is the enormous heterogeneity in functional neuronal population and the fact that one of the cardinal functional manifestations of the outer world is a reflection of a mental activity. Neuroscience bring together a range of sub-disciplines as neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, neurology, neurosurgery and psyhiatry.
The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Medicine and Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
This programme of study is offered without specialization.
Description of verification and evaluation criteria

The entrance examination takes place before the committee in the form of an oral interview and verifies the applicant's eligibility for independent scientific work in the chosen field, his/her professional and linguistic knowledge. The interview includes a discussion of the submitted project, which will be assessed for its meaningfulness and feasibility. The length of the presentation of the project should not exceed 5 minutes.
Evaluation criteria:
1. the quality of the submitted project and the level of preparation of its annotation - maximum 40 points
The evaluation will be based on whether the objectives are specific and original, the hypothesis clearly defined and the methodology adequate.
The annotation should be a maximum of 2 pages long and contain the following elements:
-title (or subtitle)
-Introduction
-objectives and working hypothesis
-the research methodology including a timetable of work, specification of the applicant's work on the project, and
the expected results of the research
-literature used (related to the project topic)
-financial support for the project (including the name and registration number of any grant
project or institutional support) - is part of the evaluation of criterion number 4
2. method of presentation of the submitted project - max. 20 points
The ability to present and respond to the questions of the committee members, basic knowledge in relation to the topic of the submitted project, including knowledge of the subject matter and theoretical background of the project and its critical comparison with already published findings are assessed
3. previous scientific and professional activity - max. 20 points
Previous activities related to the project or research in the given or related scientific field are assessed, especially publication activity, active participation in conferences or symposia, including student scientific conferences, and participation in grant projects (if the applicant is the first author or principal investigator of a grant, he/she may receive full points, if he/she is a co-author or co-investigator of a grant, up to 50% of the points, and if he/she is actively involved in research without scientific outputs, up to 25% of the points)
4. professional, material and financial support for the submitted project - maximum 20 points
The relevance of the submitted project to the focus of the envisaged supervisor with sufficient recent publication activity and his/her research projects, adequate technical and material equipment of the envisaged supervisor, the agreement of the supervisor that the applicant's project can be carried out at the department he/she supervises, and the financial security of the project through a grant or a research project (a grant application does not imply financial security of the project) are bonused.
The scoring is carried out by each member of the committee separately for each criterion. An arithmetic average is calculated from the scores of each member of the committee. Rounding will be to whole numbers - for values of 0,0-0,49 down to the nearest whole number. For values of 0,50-0,99, upwards to the nearest whole number. The ranking of the candidates is determined by the final sum of the points obtained.
A minimum score of 60 points is required to pass the entrance examination. In order to be admitted to study in the combined form, applicants must obtain a minimum number of points for successful completion of the entrance examination equal to the minimum number of points required for admission.

The postgraduate (Ph.D.) programme in neurosciences is designed for the study of the structure, functions and disorders of the nervous system. The Neurosciences programme covers, in particular, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, neurogenetics, neuropathology and neuropathophysiology, methods used in those disciplines, essential clinical knowledge of neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry as well as of the diagnostic methods used in those disciplines. A graduate of the course of study in Neurosciences has the basic knowledge of all the above parts of the discipline, is capable of independent scientific work, and well-versed in the current state of knowledge in the field of his/her dissertation. A graduate of the course of study in Neurosciences is mentioned as an author/ess in the basic reference databases of his/her field of study.
