      Doctoral study program Didactics of Mathematics focuses on the preparation of scientists and conceptual workers with competencies for scientific research in the didactics of mathematics and the analysis and evaluation of curricular curriculum content, including teacher training universities. The Didactics of Mathematics program mainly involves the field of mathematics, pedagogy, general didactics and psychology.

      A PhD candidate in Didactics of Mathematics is expected to:

      • Show interest and demonstrable activity in the field of mathematics didactics (e.g. presentations at a professional seminar or conference for teachers, professional publications, etc.),
      • is oriented in basic professional journals and monographs related to mathematics didactics,
      • be able to read with comprehension professional literature on didactics of mathematics or psychodidactics in a world language,
      • has an idea of the problem in the field of didactics of mathematics that he/she wants to pursue in his/her doctoral studies and is able to specify it in a written project of up to 10 pages (including preliminary research questions, methodology and theoretical background and a list of references).

      The admission examination is conducted in the form of a professional debate on the topic of the envisaged study. For this part of the debate, the applicant must submit a written research project of up to 10 pages with the application. This project is expected to include a clear statement of the problem the applicant wishes to address, its characteristics and the current state of the art in the national and international literature, and a basic idea of the research methodology.

      A prerequisite for admission is proper completion of a Master's degree in a similar field.

      Evaluation Criteria: In order to be admitted to full-time study, an applicant must obtain the minimum number of points for successful completion of the entrance examination and at the same time obtain the minimum number of points required for admission. The minimum number of points for admission to individual study programmes is determined by the Dean on the basis of the results of the entrance examinations, taking into account the expected number of admitted applicants and the economic and capacity possibilities of the faculty. The minimum number of points for successful completion of the entrance examination for full-time and combined forms is set at 7 points out of 10.

      The graduate of the PhD studies in mathematics education is prepared to deal with both theoretical and application problems in the mathematical education of children and adults and carry out both scientific and pedagogical activities. He/she contributes to the improvement of mathematical education of pupils and to the professionalization of teachers. He/she can work at universities, in scientific institutes and as a highly qualified teacher-mediator between research and practice. He/she is able to: recognize up-to-date key topics of the field; propose, realise and evaluate research bringing original results; systematically follow local and international scientific literature and appraise it critically; publish results of his/her work in refereed journals, at local and international conferences, in textbooks and possibly in monographs.
