      Charge for an on-line application: 780 and 1200 CZK
      Note: The amount of the fee for activities related to the admission procedure (the "fee") for the admis-sion procedure for studies starting in the 2024/2025 academic year is determined as follows:

      a) 780 Kč per one application to study a Czech-language programme,
      b) 1 200 Kč per one application to study a foreign-language programme.

      Fees must be paid separately for each programme.

      The fee can be paid online or by bank transfer, deposit to the bank account or in cash at the cash at the cash desk of the Faculty of Arts of Charles University.
      Applicants can monitor the status of the receipt, processing and payment of fees in their account in the information system.


      The fee is non-refundable at all stages of the admission procedure.

      There is no charge for the study of Czech-language programmes.
      The study of foreign-language programmes is subject to a fee in accordance with Appendix 2 to the Constitution of Charles University (https://cuni.cz/UK-146-version1-xi_priloha_c2_statutu_uz_oprava.pdf).

      Entrance examinations for all applicants will be held remotely via video conference.

      Entrance examination: single round – oral interview

      Content and subject matter of entrance examination
      1. Discussion of submitted proposal for PhD dissertation: 0–30 points
      2. Assessment of the applicant’s previous studies, research, and other academic activities: 0–15 points
      3. Assessment of the applicant’s knowledge of secondary literature (based on the list submitted by the applicant): 0–15 points

      The Subject Area Board does not propose or require particular PhD topics, but allows applicants to suggest research projects according to their personal preferences.

      The Ph.D. graduate in the Romance literatures is a highly qualified specialist trained to conduct research work in his/her field (the literature of one or more Romance-speaking areas). He/she is able to analyse the literature of the chosen Romance-speaking area in a qualified manner, applying a synchronic or diachronic approach and with view to modern literary methods and research procedures. His/her specialisation is based also on the knowledge of the general theory of literature, the basis of the comparative literature and literary criticism with special view to the chosen Romance-speaking area. The graduate is entitled to apply for a position in an academic environment (universities, research centres etc.); with his/her language skills and broad erudition the graduate may be employed in cultural institutions, the media, diplomacy, etc.
