Pharmacology and Toxicology are research topics that investigate the mechanisms of interaction of substances and medicaments with biological systems and tracking their positive and negative consequences for the organism. The final goal is to use this knowledge in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human and animal diseases. Research subject encompasses the study of both processes from the molecular level to affect the entire body and also research into clinical practice in patients.
The determination of the latest research methods allow for interdisciplinary research at the receptor level, mesenger systems and transmission of genetic information. Created new disciplines such as pharmaco-biochemistry, pharmaco-genetics, pharmaco-economy and others.
The big advantage of pharmacology and toxicology studies is a close connection of the theoretical field with all the clinical fields that perform the treatment, prevention and diagnostic. Study program in pharmacology and toxicology is therefore suitable not only for those interested in experimental research, but also for those who plan their clinical work in the future.
The study program is carried out in collaboration with the Institute of Experimental Medicine, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Institute of Physiology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The entrance procedure must be undergone by each applicant. The entrance examination is held in the form of interview before a board and it checks the student’s capacity for scientific work in the given field.

      The board evaluates:
      1. Quality of the dissertation project and abstract – max. 30 points
      2. Previous publishing activity and activity in the field of pharmacology and/or toxicology – max. 20 points
(Jimp – 10 points, Jsc – 5 points, presentation in a Student Scientific Conference or another conference – 5 points)
      3. The way of presentation of the project by the applicant – max. 10 points

      Minimum admission points: 30

Each member of the committee scores paragraphs 1–3. The maximum possible number of points from one committee member is 60. An arithmetic average is calculated from the scores of each member. Doctoral (Ph.D.) study program in „Pharmacology and Toxicology” is suitable for physicians and non-physicians, graduates of magister studies with biological and biochemical orientation, who want to specialize in pharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry and molecular biology, and will work in these disciplines in medical institutions, on clinics, in research laboratories, research institutions and on universities. By defending the Ph.D. dissertation the graduates substantiate that they are able to work independently. The standard length of study is four years. Graduates will receive the Ph.D. title and fulfil the conditions for further carrier growth in disciplines, which deal with remedies and their therapeutic and toxic effects.
