      The aim of the M.Sc. study program Geology is the education of experts who have detailed knowledge of the rock environment, its geological structure, interactions with the atmosphere, hydrosphere, pedosphere and biosphere and processes controlling migration of substances in these environments. The study program is divided into following specializations: geology, paleontology, geochemistry, environmental geology, mineralogy and crystallography, mineral resources, petrology, structural geology, geoarchaeology. Teaching geology has a long tradition at the Faculty of Science and the course structure meets today's requirements with focus on high-quality research. Leading experts from both academic institutions and private sector participate in teaching. The Geology section is fully equipped with modern scientific instruments and collaborates with numerous Czech and foreign institutions in fundamental and applied geoscience and environmental research.

      ● The exam takes place in two rounds.
      ● The admission exam is held in English.

      First round: (max. 40 points)
      The assessment of the applicants is based on the following documents sent.
      ● Curriculum vitae (10 points),
      ● List of grades (10 points),
      ● Motivation letter (20 points).
      To proceed to the second round, the applicants must obtain at least 25 points.

      Second round: (max. 60 points)
      On-line interview with the applicants who passed the second round. The exam checks the knowledge of the general knowledge in the field. The topic of the applicant’s future master thesis is discussed.

      Admission to Master's studies is conditioned by completed secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate. Admission to Post-Bachelor studies (Master's programme) is likewise conditioned by completed education in any type of study programme.

      The graduates acquire fundamental knowledge about protection of environmental compartments (rock environment, water, atmosphere, soil, geomaterials) and skills necessary for the geological and environmental data treatment (acquisition, processing and proper interpretation of information). The graduates are able to perform geological investigations according to the requests of the state geological survey (prospecting, mining and protection of natural resources) according to their specializations (geochemistry, environmental geology, mineralogy and crystallography, mineral resources, geology, palaeontology, geodynamics, geoarchaeology) They can also work for other academic research institutions, private companies as well as state authorities in the field of natural resources and environmental protection.
