The program is carried out without any specialization.

The study program is based on the interconnection and synthesis of geographic information systems, cartography and remote sensing disciplines. It provides students with advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in these disciplines, introduces modern methodological approaches and techniques and tools in these fields and the possibilities of their use in solving current problems in natural and social, especially geographical sciences with an emphasis on interdisciplinary overlaps.

The program includes scientific research and applications in the field of:
      - advanced methodological and technological procedures for spatial data analysis in geographic information systems and their applications
      - data collection and analysis using advanced remote sensing methods
      - theory of database systems design and spatial data distribution
      - organization, standardization, modeling and interpretation of spatial data
      - development of advanced tools for raster and vector data analysis
      - digital technology of modern map creation, development of new methods of automated processing of cartographic data and cartographic production systems
      - distribution and user access to spatial information on the Internet
      - creation and governance of national and transnational geoinformation infrastructure.

The aim of the study is also to create conditions for student participation in international scientific research collaboration and gaining necessary communication and professional skills, especially in the form of internships at foreign institutions.

The entrance exam is one round and the interview will deal mainly with the dissertation plan and candidate’s knowledge in the given field of study. The candidates prepares a written presentation (max 5,000 characters) and an approximately 10-minute oral presentation on the following:
      a) summary of previous scientific activities
      b) brief presentation of the doctoral project
The committee assesses the candidate’s overall motivation, their language abilities, previous scientific results, quality and feasibility of the doctoral project within the given timeline.
During the entrance examination the candidate must demonstrate the technical and linguistic skills to study the given field, along with abilities necessary for independent scientific work.

The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points. The evaluation includes the quality of the dissertation project, its feasibility and the way of presentation.

Based on a written request submitted electronically together with the application, but no later than by 5th May 2024, the dean may permit that the entrance exam will take place via information and communication technology, but only for serious and documented reasons such as health or study abroad.
