      Entrance examination: single round – oral interview

      Content, subject matter of entrance examination
      1. Discussion of submitted proposal for PhD dissertation: 0–30 points
      2. Assessment of the applicant’s previous studies, research, and other academic activities: 0–15 points
      3. Demonstration of knowledge (theory, methodology): 0–15 points
      Recommended dissertation topics:
      The topic is based on individual choice. In addition to sociology, the programme also allows specialization in certain criminology topics. In general, topics can be based on the research agenda of the Department (see also our teachers’ profiles).

      An applicant can only be admitted if they submitted a proof of their language competence for study in the respective programme, are awarded a minimum of 30 points in the entrance examination and, at the same time, score enough points to place among the expected number of students admitted to the respective programme of study (see the admissions procedure requirements applicable to the individual programmes of study); admissions will be granted to all applicants who score the same number of points as the applicant who comes in last place in the ranking of admissions. Please note that different expected numbers of admissions apply to full-time and combined forms of study. Applicants cannot be admitted without submitting evidence of their prior education no later than on the enrolment day (refer to 5.4 hereof).

      The program graduates have a broad overview of key issues in current sociological theory and methodology, they master an extensive spectrum of analytical methods of quantitative and qualitative research and they have a good ability to use and combine these procedures. They are able to formulate and solve demanding research questions, specify relevant hypotheses, find appropriate methods of solution, and formulate relevant expert opinions. The program graduates can work as scientists and university teachers or as experts and team leaders in both state and commercial sphere.
