      PhD program in German and French philosophy aims at study of classical German philosophy, phenomenology, philosophical anthropology and contemporary French philosophy, their historical foundations and their mutual interactions and influence in European culture. The program offers demanding professional training in research and independent development of actual philosophical views originating in Central Europe and France and influencing contemporary philosophy in the world and Czech Republic in particular.

      The entrance exam will consist of
      - a committee evaluation of the project and an oral discussion with the candidate on the submitted dissertation project (maximum 5 points). The decisive evaluation criteria will be the relevance of the project to the thematic definition of the field of German and French Philosophy, the meaningfulness of the project, the possibilities of solving the project, the sufficiency of the initial textual sources and the professional competence of the candidate.
      - a commissioned evaluation of the applicant's professional activities to date (maximum 5 points).

      The application must include
      1. the dissertation project, which should be consulted in advance with a supervisor selected from among the members of the Board of Studies or from a list of supervisors approved by the Board of Studies, who should confirm his/her agreement to the training in writing). The dissertation project will include:
      1.1.a. Delineation of the research area and a clear statement of the questions or problems the candidate wishes to address in the thesis and the anticipated method and process of resolution;
      1.1.b. Lists of texts, authors or sources, if any, on which the thesis will be based or which will be used in the thesis, namely
      1.1.b.1. The candidate shall provide a list of texts already studied and
      1.1.b.2. The candidate shall provide a list of texts on which he/she intends to base his/her dissertation;
      1.2. The candidate shall submit his/her own professional philosophical text (published or produced as part of his/her existing studies);
      1.3.A curriculum vitae with a list of publications.

      The instruction to graduates of the PhD program in German and French philosophy is focused on their independent scientific research within their respective field of theoretical investigation and professional career in the academic world, both at home and abroad. The instruction leads to mastering the necessary academic procedures, such as obtaining grants, building research teams, organizing conferences, foreign study visits and research fellowships, application of research outputs, leading seminars, presenting lectures, etc. Apart from this preparation for further research and pedagogical activity, the program provides prerequisites for employment within European political and cultural institutions.
