The aim of Historical Sociological research is the study of issues of long-term social processes and trends that have a significant impact on contemporary societies and phenomena. The M.A. Historical Sociology cultivates research activities and the education of experts with an emphasis on the specialisation of these processes.

Above all, historical sociology deals with problems of modernisation and social change, globalisation trends and influences, integration and disintegration processes, the relationship of continuity and discontinuity, religious and cultural pluralism, linking the global to the local, the identification of the chances and risks of social development, the analysis of conflict situations and the possibility of overcoming them.

The need for understanding of all of these issues invokes the need for the development of adequate theoretical and methodological approaches, and also of the specific training of university students, which is possible through the study of Historical Sociology.

The study program is realized without specialization.

1) By April 15, 2022, the applicant will submit a motivation letter, structured CV (curriculum vitae) and an academic paper in English before the application deadline. The paper should be no less than 15 pages in length and prove your knowledge, skills and talent for study in the program for which you are applying. The paper can be your defended bachelor’s thesis or its summary, an article published in an academic journal or any new essay that you choose to represent you and your academic knowledge. A. Theoretical conceptions of Historical Sociology and its main representatives.
B. Problems of social change and long-term developmental processes in various areas of social life.
C. Modernization, globalization and their role in contemporary society.
D. Changes in everyday life, religion, and culture.
E. Nations and nationalism then and today.

Dean of the faculty decides whether papers that the applicant submits meet the requirements.

2) Applicants have to submit a notarized copy of their bachelor's or master's diploma.
Deadline for applicants/admitted applicants to submit a copy of their bachelor's or master's diploma and diploma supplement is September 30, 2022. Applicants who won't get a recognition of their foreign diploma till the end of September are allowed to submit a copy of their diploma along with a copy of a recognition of foreign education no later than October 22, 2022.
Those applicants who graduated outside the Czech Republic are required to provide recognition of their foreign diploma. The applicant submits one of the following documents: a document obtained in accordance with sections 89 and 90 of the Higher Education Act proving general recognition of a foreign higher education in the Czech Republic (so-called general "nostrification"); or a foreign document concerning a foreign higher education if it is deemed automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic in accordance with its international agreements without any further administrative procedures (a higher education diploma and diploma supplement from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, or Slovenia); or a foreign document concerning a foreign higher education to be assessed by the Faculty (for a fee of CZK 870). The applicant should pay the recognition fee (together with the application fee, or later when they submit the documents to the Faculty for the purpose of recognition) when they file a request for recognition of the foreign education.

Admission to Master's studies is conditioned by completed secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate. Admission to Post-Bachelor studies (Master's programme) is likewise conditioned by completed education in any type of study programme.

Throughout their study of M.A. Historical Sociology, graduates will have covered both theoretical topics as well as practical and research based topics.

Regarding theory, graduates will have acquired historical-sociological knowledge from the social, cultural, religious, political and economic spheres. Practical and research-based skills acquired throughout the study of this course include professional skills based on managing the basic approaches of quantitative and qualitative historical-sociological research methodology.

This combination of both theoretical and practical fields qualifies graduates for employment both in the academic sphere, i.e., at universities and research institutions, and in the non-academic sphere, i.e. in state administration, NGO’s, agencies, consultancy firms, educational institutions, cultural organisations and in the media.
