      The language of instruction is English. Translation Studies is a fee-paying programme. The annual tuition fee is CZK 2,000.

      Entrance examination: one-round examination, interview

      Content, subject matter of entrance examination
      1. Discussion over the submitted dissertation project: 0–30 points
      2. Assessment of the applicant’s completed studies, research and other academic achievements, as well as of translation practice: 0–15 points
      3. Assessment of the applicant’s acquaintance with TS research, theory and methodology (related to the project and based on the applicant´s list submitted; at least 3 items shall be related to Czechoslovak/Central European theories): 0–15 points

      • Role of translation in the evolution of a culture
      • Socio-semiotic aspects of translation

      • Translation in the digital age
      • Economic globalisation and translation
      • Historiography of Translation Studies
      applicants are welcome to present their own projects outside the above-outlined research areas. However, they are strongly advised to consult their topics with the Chair of the Subject Area Board beforehand.

      An applicant can only be admitted if they are awarded a minimum of 30 points in the entrance examination and, at the same time, score enough points to place among the expected number of students admitted to the respective programme or field of study (see the Admissions Procedure Requirements applicable to the individual programmes and fields of study); admissions will be granted to all applicants who score the same number of points as the applicant who comes in last place in the ranking of admissions. Please note that different expected numbers of admissions apply to full-time and combined forms of study. Applicants cannot be admitted without submitting evidence of their prior education no later than on the enrolment day (refer to 5.4 hereof).

      Graduates have a sound grounding in research methods in the humanities, particularly in the study of relationships between languages / cultures; knowledge of information sources and the ability to assess their relevance to the pair of languages / cultures of their choice; a thorough grounding in the theoretical concepts of translation and interpreting and the ability to apply them to the analysis of the translation / interpreting market and procedures. They are equipped to produce and edit extensive scientific texts and to evaluate the quality of writings in translation and interpreting studies. They are capable of theoretical reflection on particular products / situations related to translation studies within their linguistic, cultural, historical and social contexts, and are able to present their findings to the academic communities.
