      Entrance examination: one-round examination, interview

      Content, subject matter of entrance examination
      1. Discussion of submitted proposal for PhD dissertation: 0–30 points
      2. Assessment of the applicant’s previous studies, research, and other academic activities: 0–15 points
      3. Assessment of the applicant’s knowledge of secondary literature: 0–15 points
      The proposal should contain the following: the wider context of the selected topic, the basic theoretical framework, the intended objectives and structure of the dissertation, formulation of the research question, and the contemplated methodological approaches. The defence of the proposal involves demonstrating a basic overview of the pedagogical concepts and methodology of social science research.

      Recommended dissertation topics:
      For studies at the Faculty of Arts, the Subject Area Board prefers topics from social pedagogy, the philosophy of education, the sociology of education, the history of education, social pathology and risky behaviour in children and youth, didactics, and drama education.

      An applicant can only be admitted if they are awarded a minimum of 30 points in the entrance examination and, at the same time, score enough points to place among the expected number of students admitted to the respective programme or field of study (see the Admissions Procedure Requirements applicable to the individual programmes and fields of study); admissions will be granted to all applicants who score the same number of points as the applicant who comes in last place in the ranking of admissions. Please note that different expected numbers of admissions apply to full-time and combined forms of study. Applicants cannot be admitted without submitting evidence of their prior education no later than on the enrolment day (refer to 5.4 hereof).

      Graduate of the doctoral program Education is an expert in the area of education who cultivates the ability to apply theoretical equipment in a creative way during the course of study. He/she is knowledgeable, methodologically and linguistically equipped for an individual and a team scientific work in education and related social sciences. He/she can be employed in particular as a scientist, university educator, teacher at higher professional schools, as an expert or manager in separate educational provisions and as a conceptual or analytical expert in public administration institutions. The acquired competencies allow him/her to work professionally in a wide range of professions where he/she uses profound professional and methodological knowledge, critical thinking and professional insight.
