Master in Society, Communication and Media (SOCOME) is a two-year graduate programme, which provides students with the knowledge and analytical skills in the fields of media studies and sociology. The programme helps students to understand and analyse the role of mass media and social media in contemporary societies. Graduates will become familiar with the knowledge of classic and up-to-date theories of mass society, mass media and social media, which are essential for the future experts in the field. Moreover, graduates will gain an in-depth knowledge of the methodologies and applications in the study of media and society. In addition to providing students with a robust background in theoretical knowledge and methodology, the programme emphasises the development of students’ critical thinking and practical skills in the field of empirical social research. Thanks to the broad scope of competencies acquired and deepened during their studies, graduates become highly valued experts in many professions in the fields of the media industry, public relations, applied social research, public administration, local and global governance, NGOs, think-tanks, political parties, and academia.

The admissions commission will assess applicants for study on the basis of the documents submitted. The final score can arrive up to 100 points. The point limit for accepting applicants is set by the Dean. In addition to the application, the following documents must be provided and will be assessed:

CV in English
Copy of Bachelor's degree certificate, or confirmation of ongoing studies in the academic year that those studies will be completed;
List of academic results from a completed Bachelor's programme (summary of marks and academic results)
A motivation letter.
A proof of English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE or similar documents - essential for the non-native English speakers only);
Applicants who are native speakers of English or whose studies were conducted in English do not need to provide evidence of their level of English. Other applicants should provide one of the following results: IELTS Academic - minimum required overall band score of 6.5, with band score 6.0 or above in all four components, TOEFL Internet Based Test - minimum required overall score of 80, or Cambridge ESOL FCE - minimum scale score of 173.
All candidates must complete Bachelor level education before they start studying the program. The admissions commission will use a ranking system of points 1 – 100, on the basis of the documents submitted. The point limit for accepting applicants is set by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University.
