The entrance exam is one round and the interview will deal mainly with the dissertation plan and candidate’s knowledge in the given field of study.

      The committee assesses:
      1) Quality and presentation of the dissertation project. The project may be attached to the application (as an optional supplement) or it can be brought to the interview. The applicant is expected to prepare the project together with a potential supervisor.
      2. Knowledge and orientation of the applicant in the field, especially in relation to the dissertation project and previous activities (e.g. master thesis), and the applicant’s motivation. The applicant must prove knowledge of current research in the field (especially in relation to the dissertation topic) and the ability to ask relevant questions, formulate hypotheses and assess them critically.
      3. The committee may take into account previous activities and previous study results.

The examination is graded with a maximum of 100 points, of which 20 points may be awarded as a bonus for giving a more specific idea of the study content and planned dissertation in the voluntary application appendix, including the dissertation topic, a brief annotation, an anticipated supervising department and the consent of a specific supervisor to supervise such doctoral project.

Based on a written request submitted electronically together with the application, but no later than by 12th May 2021, the dean may permit that the entrance exam will take place via information and communication technology, but only for serious and documented reasons such as health or study abroad.

The graduate has a deep knowledge of plant biology, from the level of molecular structure and life processes of the plant cell, through the structure, metabolism and ontogenesis of the entire plant, to plant interactions with the environment. The graduate knows modern methods in experimental plant biology and understands their principles. They are oriented in the broader context of the field, can independently analyze a complex scientific problem, propose procedures to solve it, cooperate on its solution and correctly evaluate, interpret, and present the results of experiments. The graduate can find work in basic and applied research in biological fields, especially plant-oriented ones, at scientific, academic, and commercial institutions at home and abroad.
