      The Bachelor’s programme in Liberal Arts and Humanities is an interdisciplinary academic programme within the humanities, with a primary focus on philosophy, history, and cultural and social anthropology. A distinctive feature of the programme is its highly flexible curriculum, which enables students to cultivate their individual strengths and pursue their academic interests.
      Students are required to complete core courses in the humanities and social sciences and to pass comprehensive examinations in each respective field. Through the selection of elective courses, students may gradually develop a specialised academic profile, preparing them for further study at the Master’s level in relevant theoretical disciplines or for the practical application of the skills acquired.

      The programme is offered without formal specialisation.

      The language of instruction is English.

      During the admission process, candidates are required to fulfil two conditions: 1) they must obtain the required percentile, based on General Academic Prerequisites (GAP) test administered by Scio (https://www.scioexams.com/), which assesses linguistic and logical reasoning skills, and 2) they must submit valid proof of their previous education.

      1) The first condition of the admission process is the demonstration of general academic aptitude in the GAP test organised between January 2026 and April 2026; the test can only be taken online. Candidates must register for the GAP test by themselves, directly via Scio’s website.
      The CU Faculty of Humanities will provide one free voucher for the GAP test scheduled on Saturday, 25 April 2026, to all applicants who have duly submitted their application form and paid the application fee. Detailed instructions on how to obtain the voucher will be sent to the email address provided in the application form. This voucher is non-transferable and valid only for the specified date. Participation in the GAP test on dates other than April 25th must be paid by the applicant themselves, as the faculty does not reimburse costs for the GAP test on dates different from the one specified.

      As a part of the GAP test, each applicant must grant Scio permission to share their test results with the Faculty of Humanities.

      The GAP examination dates are:
      January 31th, 2026;
      February 28th, 2026;
      March 28th, 2026;
      April 25th, 2026 (term to be covered by the faculty).
      More information regarding the GAP test is available at https://www.scioexams.com/general-academic-prerequisites; for additional information regarding Scio, see https://www.scioexams.com/contact.

      The Dean determines the percentile threshold for admission, taking into account the number of candidates participating in the admission process and the operational capacity of the CU Faculty of Humanities.

      2) The second condition of the admission process is the submission of proof of previous education, i.e. a copy of the applicant’s high (secondary) school diploma and transcript of records. The deadline for providing the abovementioned proof is set to September 30th, 2026. Applicants who have completed their previous secondary education outside the Czech Republic must submit one of the following documents to prove their previous education: a document proving that a foreign document concerning the obtainment of secondary education is generally recognized as equivalent or valid in the Czech Republic (nostrification); or a foreign document concerning foreign secondary education completed with a “maturita” examination if it is deemed automatically equivalent in the Czech Republic by its international agreements without any further administrative procedures (a “maturita” school leaving certificate from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, or Slovenia; or International Baccalaureate; or European Baccalaureate); or a foreign document concerning foreign secondary education to be assessed by the Faculty (for a fee of 990 CZK). The verification period for fulfilling graduation requirements is set for October 22nd, 2026; this date applies to applicants who passed their final examinations during the autumn term, or to applicants who fulfilled the secondary education requirement with the final examinations according to Section 48(4) of the Higher Education Act.

      Detailed information regarding the method of proving the previous education can be found on the Faculty’s website: https://fhs.cuni.cz/FHSENG-912.html.

      Graduates of the Liberal Arts and Humanities programme acquire a broad foundation of knowledge across multiple disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, including philosophy, sociology, history, and anthropology. The programme places particular emphasis on self-reliance, responsibility, and independent creative work, thereby equipping graduates with the capacity for continued education and adaptability in a dynamic labour market.
      Graduates are qualified for a wide range of professional roles, including positions in public administration, local government, non-profit organisations, education, research, and consultancy within multicultural and humanities-oriented institutions.
      Graduates with a predominantly theoretical focus gain not only a comprehensive grounding in the general humanities but also specialised expertise in one or more of the aforementioned disciplines. This prepares them for further academic pursuits at the Master’s or postgraduate level in the humanities.
      Graduates with a more applied orientation are well-suited for careers in public relations, advertising, media, and related fields. They acquire practical competencies such as research project design, text editing and preparation, information processing, and the development of corporate presentations.
