The MA in Economic Research is a program designed for outstanding students who have completed their undergraduate studies (BA holders) and are interested in economic research. BA holders from non-economic fields with strong mathematical background are also encouraged to apply. The aim of this program is to prepare students for further postgraduate education (leading towards a PhD degree in Economics) and a career in economic research. The program consists of two years of coursework that equips students with the systematic knowledge of economic theory and empirical research techniques. Students also engage in supervised independent research project resulting in a high-standard MA Thesis. Graduates receive a Czech degree fully accredited by Charles University.
The entrance examination is single-round and conducted in English.

Applicants are evaluated based on the required application attachments. The maximum number of points in the first round is 40.

Evaluation of the recommended application attachments:
Applicants with the highest scores will be admitted. The point threshold for admission is determined by the dean, considering the number of applicants taking the entrance exam and the capacity of the faculty.
Note on recommendation letters:
Names and email addresses of (up to two) people willing to provide letters of recommendation need to be emailed to mer@cerge-ei.cz. Details how to submit the letters of recommendation will be subsequently provided to these people.
Note on proof of English proficiency:
Applicants who are not native English speakers (i.e., not citizens of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, or the United States) must provide a valid proof of their English proficiency. We accept exclusively exam certificates IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge, or the Duolingo English Test (with a minimal score of 115). By the application date, the documents should not be older than two years (with the exception of the Cambridge exam certificate.
Please note that a confirmation of studying in English is not a sufficient proof of English proficiency, with the exception of studies undertaken in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, or the United States.
Admission to Master's studies is conditioned by completed secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate. Admission to Post-Bachelor studies (Master's programme) is likewise conditioned by completed education in any type of study programme.

The program’s graduates will have mastered complex technical tools enabling them to independently conduct theoretical and empirical research in economics. Graduates gain knowledge of advanced microeconomic, macroeconomic and econometric models and specialized knowledge of advanced theoretical and econometric methods, as well as knowledge of state-of-the-art economic research in their chosen area of expertise. Graduates further gain knowledge of advanced mathematical methods, the ability to use statistical and computational programs and to both passively and actively use English in order to carry out economic professions at the international level, and the ability to present research results in both oral and written form at a high academic level.
