Applicants are admitted on the basis of their results in the admissions procedure. The requirements for the admissions procedure and the result of the entrance examination are valid only for the given academic year. An applicant may take the entrance examination within the admissions procedure once in an academic year.
The application is valid only after the payment of the fee. The application fee is paid by payment card or bank transfer. Payment instructions are generated after the submission of the application.
The entire entrance examination is held in English and is divided into two rounds:
Round 1 of the entrance examination – knowledge test with multiple-choice questions (MCQs): The test consists of three parts which focus on the applicant’s knowledge in the following fields: 1) biology, 2) chemistry, and 3) physics. In the third part of the test, the applicant’s logical, critical, and creative thinking is also tested. Sample questions for all parts of the test are available on the Faculty website:
https://en.lf1.cuni.cz/how-to-prepare-for-entrance-exams.
The assessment of the test is based on the single best answer system. There is only one correct answer for each question. Points are not deducted for wrong answers. For the purposes of objectivity, comparability of different test versions, and comparable difficulty level of the individual parts of the test, the number of points for each test is converted to a percentage (0 to 100%). The standardised method applied is described in detail in the guidance material issued in the form of a Dean’s directive.
Applicants who can prove their exceptional results in secondary-school educational programmes recognised at an international level may be granted bonus points corresponding to 10% added to the final result in round 1 of the entrance examination (knowledge test). The bonus points may be granted to applicants who provide proof of one of the following results:
• International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP): The applicant was awarded a total of at least 36 points and completed HL Biology, HL Chemistry, and at least one other subject in the Sciences group (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science Design Technology, Environmental Systems and Societies, Physics, Sports, Physical Education and Health Science) or in the Mathematics group (Analysis and Approaches, Applications and Interpretation) at a higher level (HL) and, at the same time, achieved at least 6 points in each of these three subjects.
• The General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Levels): The applicant was graded at least A, A, A in Biology, Chemistry, and a third subject which falls within natural sciences or mathematics (Mathematics, Mathematics Further, Physics, or Marine Science).
• Deutsches Abitur: The applicant completed the subjects of Biology and Chemistry in the form of Leistungskurse (LK) and was awarded at least 13 points in each of these subjects and, at the same time, the applicant’s average Abitur grade on the German scale was 1.3 or better.
The bonus points may be awarded on the basis of an application submitted in the SIS no later than 14 days before the date of round 1 of the entrance examination. The bonus points may not be granted on the basis of anticipated or preliminary results.
Applicants sit for round 1 of the entrance examination in person in Prague at the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University on the date set in advance and take the test in written (paper) form or in electronic form (in the computer centres determined in advance). Applicants may also take the test at the Faculty’s official international representative, also in written (paper) or electronic form in computer centres determined in advance, where the exact dates will be published on the Faculty website. Information on the partner agencies is available on the Faculty website:
https://en.lf1.cuni.cz/international-representatives
Applicants are invited to sit for round 1 of the entrance examination in the SIS no later than 30 days in advance.
Applicants qualify for round 2 of the entrance examination on the basis of the percentage they achieve in all three parts of the test and their bonus points, if any. The threshold to qualify for round 2 of the entrance examination is determined by the Dean no later than on 15 February 2026.
Round 2 of the entrance examination – online multiple mini-interviews (MMIs): Applicants participate in five short interviews on different topics. Each interview is led by a different examiner. The topics may include interpretation of information, data analysis, communication skills, quantitative reasoning, creativity, study motivation, personal achievements, and experience in the medical environment. A maximum of 20 points may be awarded for each interview, which means up to 100 points for round 2 of the entrance examination.
Round 2 of the entrance examination is held online within 30 days after round 1. Applicants are invited in advance together with the invitation for round 1. They are informed whether they have qualified for round 2 of the entrance examination in the SIS no later than two days in advance of the date of round 2.
Important: The points, or percentages, awarded for rounds 1 and 2 of the entrance examination are not added up as a total. Applicants are admitted to study on the basis of the points they achieve in round 2 of the entrance examination.
The number of points required to be admitted to the programme is determined by the Dean on the basis of the results of round 2 with regard to the capacity of the programme (30 students for the Dentistry programme of study in the 2026/2027 academic year); the fulfilment of the requirement in itself does not, however, mean that the applicant is admitted.
In addition to passing the entrance examination (achieving the required number of points), the applicant must prove the completion of secondary education with a secondary school leaving examination. If an applicant’s foreign education is to be recognised by the Faculty, the applicant must fulfil the following requirements:
• Pay the fee for the recognition of education; and
• Submit the legalised documents no later than on 31 August 2026.
