Cílem kurzu je představit sport jako jeden z nejrozšířenějších fenoménů současného světa, jednak v historických souvislostech, ale zejména v jeho transdisciplinární perspektivě. Kurz se tak zaměří na chápání těsnějšího propojení sportu a politiky, masmédií, globalizace, (trans)nacionalismu, identity, sociální stratifikace, lidové kultury (fanouškovství) apod. Kurz bude kombinací přednášek (teoretičtější ukotvení, historický vývoj sportu, zařazení sportu do obecnější antropologické/sociologické teorie) a seminářů (četba, interpretace a diskuse nad vybranými texty - case studies, vztahujících se k různým druhům sportu či obecnějším sociálním a kulturním tématům).
