The lecture serves also as “repetitorium” which should help the students to prepare for the examination in
philosophy. The aim of the lecture is to introduce the students to the crucial problems of the ancient philosophy and
ancient Christianity. The lecture focuses mainly on the philosophical problems that are important for the
development of early Christian theology (Origen and Augustine). As it is expected that the students are able to get
knowledge of the general overview of the history of the ancient philosophy and early Christianity from the
introductory books, the lecture focuses of the more difficult questions and should lead the students to the individual
lecture of the philosophical texts.

Structure of the subject:

1) Dionysius the Areopagite
2) Plotinus
3) Origen
4) Augustine
5) Christianity and Platonism
6) Plato
7) Stoicism
8) Philo of Alexandria
9) John the Evangelist
