The Combat sports course emphasizes the acquisition of basic theoretical knowledge of the system of combat activities, and basic practical skills in various grappling sports, especially judo and karate. The course explains and advocates the importance of incorporating contact exercises into physical activity. The course content serves as a movement basis for TV teachers and coaches within their competences. The content of the course has overlap into everyday civic life, especially the skill of breakfall techniques.

The aim of the course is to gain theoretical knowledge of the systematics and biomechanical structure of preparatory combat activities, the influence of combat activities exercises on the development of motor skills of an individual, and to acquire basic practical skills in combat sports performed in standing and low positions (sitting and lying down).

Upon completion of the course the student will:

Knows and can explain the systematics of combat sports.

Can explain the influence of the combat activities exercises on the development of motor skills.

Understands and can explain the principles of brakfall techniques.

Knows how to demonstrate the basic technical means of the selected combat sports.

Knows how to correctly use and incorporate training aids (laps) when practising punches and kicks.

Knows how to practically and safely demonstrate individual breakfall techniques and combinated falls.

Knows and can incorporate various preparatory exercises into the warm-up.

1) Breakfall techniques

  • forward and backward falls with a roll over the shoulder (to both sides)
  • forward fall with shoulder roll with smooth transition to backward fall with shoulder roll

2) Karate techniques

  • straight punches (tsuki)
  • kicks (mae geri, mawashi geri, yoko geri)
  • smooth combinations of kicks and punches to the boxing pads or to the opponent

3) Judo techniques

  • throwing techniques (morote seoi nage, o goshi)
  • imobilization/armlocks (ude hišigi jujie gatame, ude garami)
  • imobilization/struggleholds (kata gatame, kesa gatame, yoko shiho gatame)
  • combination of throws with a smooth transition to strugglehold techniques (grappling, holding)

2. Preparatory combat activities in couples, basic wrestling struggleholds, punches and kicks

3. Preparatory combat activities in couples, colective grappling games, break fall technique - backward falls, additional punches and kicks

4. Grappling games, combination of breakfall techniques, combination of punches and kicks

5. Basic wrestling techniques on the ground, combination of punches and kicks, basic defensive techniques, basic judo principles - walking, grips

6. Judo basics - throws, struggleholds

7. Colective grappling, advanced combinations of punches and kicks, judo basics - additional throws, struggleholds and escapes

8. Breakfall techniques, judo basics - additional throws, struggleholds and grappling, combinations
