The subject Olympic Education supports the identification and dissemination of the Olympic knowledge, ideas and values of the Olympics into the consciousness and behavior of people. Students will gain a deeper knowledge of the history and organization of the Olympic Movement and will be able to actively and knowledgeably discuss past and present problems in the field of Olympic sports and sports in general. They will be encouraged, in accordance with humanistic ideas and values of Olympics, to motivate their future wards to actively participate in sport and self-realization in physical activity. They will be acquainted with projects and concepts of Olympic education, but will also be led to create their own concepts and methodical materials usable in school and sports practice. Olympic education in children and youth is perceived and conceived across subjects, across competences to achieve personal development, for which sport and physical activity are a means.
Aim of the course -
Last update: PhDr. Radka Peřinová, Ph.D. (25.03.2024)

The goal of the subject is primarily the development of the affective component of the student's personality so that, in accordance with the humanistic ideas and values of Olympism, he motivates his future wards to actively participate in sports and self-realization in physical activity. Acquaintance with projects and concepts of Olympic education should lead students to create their own concepts and methodological materials that can be used in school and sports practice.

Students have the opportunity to prove acquired competences (learning outcomes) in two ways:

1) Knowledge test from Olympic education

The questions are formulated in such a way that the student demonstrates that he/she has understood, understood in context (describe, explain), can analyze and apply (analyze causes and consequences, discuss use in the environment...) is able to take a position, evaluate (evaluate, defend).

CIRCUITS FOR THE TEST from OLYMPIC EDUCATION 2024

  • the emergence of the modern Olympic Games (ancient Greek ideals of ekecheria, kalokagathia, etc.; conditions and reasons for the creation of the modern Olympics; positivism and romanticism in the view of the present Olympics)
  • important personalities of the Olympic movement and the landmark Olympic Games (Pierre de Coubertin, Jiří Guth Jarkovský, Juan Antonio Samaranch, Thomas Bach)
  • basic Olympic values and topics of Olympic education (Exceptionality, respect, friendship; Joy of effort, fair play, respect for others, striving to excel, balance of body, will and mind; relation to personality and social education: controversial topics)
  • structure and organization of the Olympic movement (IOC, IOC members, national Olympic committees, WWTP, organization of the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Youth Olympic Games)
  • educational activities of the Czech Olympic Committee (ČOA, Olympic festivals, OVEP, Sazka Olympic all-around, European Sports Week)
  • the Olympic Games as a celebration (ceremonials, slogan, symbols, anthem, flag, fire, pledge ... an educational tool?)

2) Didactic material with Olympic themes and methodology

The student will design and create original didactic material with an Olympic theme (for groups of different focus, age, specifics, for different environments and occasions) including a developed methodology.

The student presents the created didactic material to his classmates, justifies and defends its use. In the case of a creative work, the processing (technical or graphic, elaboration of details, etc.), the originality of the idea and execution, the compliance of the pursued educational goal with the ideas of Olympism, and, above all, quality methodology, are evaluated.

Course completion requirements -
Last update: PhDr. Radka Peřinová, Ph.D. (07.08.2023)

80% participation in lectures is expected. Completion of the course is a form of graded credit.

Course of the test: in written form, without time limit (estimated time is 20 - 30 min.); the student receives questions from at least two predefined areas:

The questions are formulated in such a way that the student demonstrates that he/she has understood, understood in context (describe, explain), can analyze and apply (analyze causes and consequences, discuss use in the environment...) is able to take a position, evaluate (evaluate, defend).

Classification: The level of knowledge, orientation in the issue, depth of personal insight and finding mutual connections are evaluated.

2) Didactic material with Olympic themes and methodology

The student will design and create original didactic material with an Olympic theme (for groups of different focus, age, specifics, for different environments and occasions) including a developed methodology.

It is recommended to process and consult with the teacher already during the semester (course).
