The course expands the theoretical background and professional skills of students specializing in swimming sports in the area of swimming technique, swimming didactics and sports training. The student will gain knowledge about the directions of research in swimming sports, which were mainly related to swimming technique, to the explanation of swimming propulsion, from 1950 to the present. After completing the course, students should have basic knowledge of the development of swimming techniques, the scientific approach to the search for an explanation of swimming propulsion, and the current problems that the scientific community is solving in swimming.

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the concept of historical and contemporary research in the field of swimming.

After completing the course, the student knows important personalities who were involved in scientific research in the field of swimming. The student will be able to distinguish which research areas in the category of swimming sports were investigated first and how the given research progressed in subsequent years up to the present day. The student will orient himself in current scientific topics in the field of swimming. The student will deepen his knowledge of the methodology of science.
