The course introduces the basic philosophical aspects of research. It focuses on the problem of concepts, basic principles of defining concepts, and the problem of truth. Special attention is placed on ther role of language and interpretation of texts. Differences of research withihin philosophy, social sciences and natural sciences will be explained. The course will also discuss ethical aspects of research. The themes will be discussed with respect to problems that students face when preparing and writing their master thesis.

The basic learning outcomes are:

- students understand the basic principles of ethics in research and can apply them in research work;

- students oriented themselves in the problem of defining the basic concepts of scientific research and know the basic mistakes in defining concepts;

- students have the ability to critically evaluate existing definitions;

- students understand how science works at the most general level (especially the goals of science and the position of scientists in science);

- students have a more comprehensive approach to scientific work.
