Kinanthropometry addresses the relationships between body structure and motor functions. The central theme Kinanthropometry is the measurement of humans in their morphological diversity and the application of this knowledge to various forms motion while monitoring the effect of motion on this variability.
Aim of the course -
Last update: PhDr. Šárka Vokounová, Ph.D. (09.09.2023)

The aim of the course is to acquire basic knowledge in the field of Kinesioanthropometry and practical skills in the area of somatometry. Students will be able to locate specific anatomical landmarks on the body, measure them, and determine selected indices. Furthermore, they will be capable of establishing biological proportional age and somatotype. Additionally, students will be able to compare acquired data with norms and determine a normalization index. They will also have the ability to determine body composition from anthropometric data according to Matiegka's methods.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be competent to:

  • Understand the terminology in Kinesioanthropometry and master the instrumentation.
  • Locate anthropometric points, measure body dimensions, and determine anthropometric indices.
  • Have an understanding of the history of constitutional typology development. Describe individual approaches and models.
  • Determine somatotype using Heath and Carter's method and evaluate it. Identify the appropriate somatotype for different sports.
  • Determine body composition using non-invasive anthropometric methods.
  • Analyze and explain body composition results obtained through bioimpedance devices.
  • Determine biological age using the proportional age method. Evaluate the output from DEXA.
  • Predict body height using various methods.
  • Assess an individual's somatic development in different age periods.
  • Analyze anthropometric data using basic descriptive statistics, evaluate anthropometric data, interpret percentile charts, and determine and interpret normalization indices.
