The aim of the course is to understand the breadth of the issue of violence in modern society, but also to understand the basic principles of prevention and practical assistance to victims of violence.

The concept of violence, its philosophical and legal contours, basic classification

Psychological explanation, situational aspects (frustration, aggression), aggression as a personality trait

Violence as a cultural phenomenon, symbolic forms of violence

Methodological possibilities of violence (experiments, Zimbardo), victimology, self-report studies, case reports

Violence and media

Statistics of violent crime. Offenders of serious violent crimes. Victimization, position of victim, specifics of domestic violence and stalking

Possibilities of helping victims of violence. Problems of reproduction of violent patterns in family and education. Violence in the workplace - bullying, mobbing

Violence in political struggle (extremism and terrorism, hate crime). Moral panic and punitive attitudes
