The Basic Czech Course of two teaching hours per week aims to provide a rudimentary communicative competence in Czech. Students will learn Czech pronunciation and grammar (e. g. essentials of the declension, conjugation, the present, past and future tenses og Czech verbs), as well as selected vocabulary topics (introducing oneself, finding the way around the city, making a phone call, doing the shopping, ordering at a restaurant, understanding signs and notices, becoming familiar with numbers and clocks, essential phrases and facts from university life, etc.). Students are permitted a maximum of three unexplained absences, other absences from seminars are to be explained by doctorś certificate or petition in writing.
