The aim of the course is to gain knowledge of current issues of evaluation of the effectiveness of physiotherapeutic procedures, the focus is on "evidence-based practice" in the medical field, and in particular in the medical field physiotherapy. Another aim is to acquire skills in the evaluation of so-called evidence with respect to the work of a physiotherapist.

Learning Outcomes:

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge, skills and general competencies so that after the completion of the course the students:

  • demonstrate knowledge of the principles of "evidence based medicine" and "evidence based practice"
  • demonstrate the ability to describe the individual steps associated with the practice of evidence-based physiotherapy
  • demonstrate an understanding of how research results, cultural preferences, etc. affect the application of evidence-based practice
  • demonstrate the ability to critically assess research studies in relation to the validity of their findings for the clinical practice of current physiotherapy
  • demonstrate the ability to identify and describe the importance of high quality, ethical clinical research in the current physiotherapeutic practice
  • demonstrate knowledge of an overview of diagnostic (measuring) tools in physiotherapy and they are able to evaluate the suitability of a measuring tool in relation to the clinical outcome
  • demonstrate an understanding of the importance of evidence-based physiotherapy practice for patients, the medical profession and physiotherapy service providers
  • demonstrate the ability of a critical approach to new knowledge from all sources, to analyze, interpret it and apply it appropriately in the provision of health care in physiotherapy
  • demonstrate an understanding of the need for responsibility for maintaining the standards of physiotherapy practice at the highest level throughout the professional career
  • demonstrate awareness of an overview of clinical guidelines and standards in physiotherapy on an international scale
