The course addresses the issues of the position and role of sport in today’s society. It presents basic theoretical approaches to sociology of sport and particularly concentrates on the relationships between social stratification and participation in sports and on using sport as a mean for solving social problems and social pathological phenomena. Attention is primarily focused on adolescent and senior populations, their lifestyle in relation to the current face of sport.

Kurz se zabývá otázkami postavení a úlohy sportu v současné společnosti. Seznamuje se základními teoretickými přístupy sociologie sportu. Zaměřuje se zejména na souvislosti sociální stratifikace a participace ve sportu a na využívání sportu jako nástroje řešení sociálních problémů a sociálně patologických jevů. Pozornost je věnována zejména adolescentní a seniorské populaci, jejich životnímu stylu a v kontextu současného globalizovaného sportu a konzumně orientované společnosti.
