The course develops basic knowledge of biomechanics. Attention is paid to pathological aspects biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, developmental defects and peculiarities of movement of seniors and all groups of people with disabilities.
Aim of the course -
Last update: doc. Ing. Monika Šorfová, Ph.D. (26.09.2023)

The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with the tools of biomechanics in dealing with movement specifics of all groups of people with disabilities.

Student skills

• The student will describe the structures of the movement system, both passive structures (bone, ligaments, cartilage, intervertebral disc, etc.) and active nerve-muscle-tendon complex.

• Explains the kinematic links of joints.

• Formulates the consequences of Newton's laws and uses them in predicting changes in the movement of selected situations of the movement of people with or without a compensatory aid.

• Calculates the body's center of gravity and determines its moment of inertia. He is able to use this information to analyze the movement of people with disabilities

• Determines the types of forces acting on a body, their magnitudes, directions and resultant in a specific simple situation

• Applies knowledge about the rotational effects of force in solving practical problems of the movement of the handicapped

• Understands and is able to represent and categorize the rheological behavior of individual components of the movement system.

Student competence

• Uses the acquired knowledge and skills to decide on the choice of a solution to the movement specifics of persons with disabilities for the purpose of injury prevention

• Can justify, revise and oppose used diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of movement and the movement system of a person with a handicap.

• The student is able to expand and update his knowledge based on the Evidence-Based Medicine approach.
