The subject aims to develop knowledge in the area of social pedagogy. The subject provides psychosocial and pedagogical characteristics of children with various levels of disability. It points out the specific needs of a family taking care of a disabled child as well as the possibilities of dealing with the situation. It clarifies the issue of comprehensive care and integration of disabled children, the ecosystem relationship child - family - school. It also includes identification of special education needs in the Czech Republic and abroad, choice of the path of education, requirement for the individualization and differentiation of goals and methodologies in education, an overview of schools and facilities intended for the education of individuals with special education needs in the Czech Republic.

The subject of the study acquaints the students with the foundation of special education. Special education is the discipline of pedagogics, which discusses contemporary problems of education of the pupils with health handicap and with new of integration, humanisation and democration trends of education children, adolescents and adults with different specieses of handicaps.
