The course aims at developing students´ communicative competence from the initial B1+ towards B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is the fourth part of a five-semester course. Four essential language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing - are developed throughout the course with the special focus on fluency and appropriateness of one´s speech. The students are motivated to clearly formulate their opinions about the topics from the coursebook. Their wordstock is systematically enriched, especially with collocations, idioms, phrasal verbs and abstract expressions. Students are led to understand grammar as a system and their knowledge is extended by grammatical features occurring in the used texts. Supplementary materials such as authentic newspaper texts and BBC recordings are employed.

Jedná se o čtvrtý semestr pětisemestrálního kurzu. Systematicky se pracuje s učebnicí Insight od Oxford University Press a rozvíjejí se řečové dovednosti studentů, a to v oblasti mluvního projevu, čtení s porozuměním, poslechu s porozuměním a psaní s rostoucím důrazem na správnost, plynulost a komplexnost jazykového projevu. Texty a nahrávky jsou všestranně využívány; studenti jsou stimulováni k jasnému formulování názoru k jejich obsahu. Systematicky se rozšiřuje slovní zásoba zejména o kolokace, idiomy, frázová slovesa a abstraktní pojmy. Studenti jsou vedeni k chápání mluvnice jako systému a jejich znalosti v této oblasti se rozšiřují o jevy vyskytující se v probíraných textech. Kurz je nabízen ve dvou jazykových úrovních - mírně a středně pokročilí.

Cílem předmětu je rozvoj cizojazyčné komunikační kompetence studentů z předpokládané vstupní úrovně A1/A2 dle Společného evropského referenčního rámce pro jazyky k úrovni A1+/A2+ pro nižší úroveň a B1+ pro vyšší úroveň.

Requirements to the exam

The course will cover each of the following 5 areas, and in the final exam, each one carries a mark of up to 20%.

These areas are:

• Use of English (grammar and vocabulary covered in the course)
• Reading
• Listening
• Writing (100-150 words)
• Speaking (1-2 minutes, topics specified in class)

A final mark of at least 65% is required for a PASS.

In the event of a fail, the students will be offered two more opportunities to take the exam.
