The course gives students more thorough orientation in the field of social pedagogy. It offers different views of the problem of education, particularly focusing on its social connections. It concentrates on selected current topics of social pedagogy, especially those going beyond theory into practice. Generally defined problems are applied in specific educational situations with regard to specific groups of individuals. The focus is on methods of social educational activities, help in critical life situations, communities and community work, creating educational environment, multicultural education, children and youth risk behaviour in schools and educational institutions.

The primary objective of the course is to improve social competence of prospective pedagogical staff members, and to help graduates gain knowledge and skills that they can use in practice, especially when it comes to the area of preventive influence. The secondary aim is to show students those areas of school life in which they can utilize acquired knowledge of social pedagogy.
