The course is based on a holistic approach to health and mediates basic knowledge of psychology and sociology of health. Attention is paid to different approaches to the phenomenon of human health, selected theories of health and disease are presented. Emphasis is placed on clarifying the issue of stress, incl. load management process. Personality and situational factors influencing the course of the stress response are analyzed in detail. The aim of the course is to present the basic knowledge of psychology and sociology of health and to mediate a deeper and broader view of psycho-social factors that play an important role in health and disease. 1. Introduction to health psychology, overview of fields studying health and disease, basic concepts. 2. Holistic approach to human health and psychosomatics. 3. Illness in human life, procedural character of illness, cognitive representation of illness. 4. Quality of life in relation to health and disease. 5. Biological theories of stress, physiology of stress. 6. Psychological and systemic theories of stress, stress management. 7. Moderators of stress - personality and situational factors. 8. Sociological views on health and disease. 9. Man in health-relevant roles. 10. Medicinalization of the contemporary society.
