The course presents media education as an important interdisciplinary discipline, without which it would be difficult to understand the functioning of the media in society and their activities. The course is focused on getting acquainted with the functioning and use and influence of the media on contemporary society with regard to educational processes based on current technical, philosophical and psychosocial aspects as well as cultural aspects, including critical reflection and analysis of media products. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic theories of media communication, media competencies, the concept of media literacy, the current situation and the use of media in the teaching process, characterize individual media competencies and lead to critical reflection on media content. 1. History of media education and its concept. 2. Embedding media education in legislative documents in the Czech Republic. 3. Basic conception and justification of the need for media education at present. 4. Basic media theory. 5. Media research in the past and present. 6. Media literacy and civil society. 7. Competence in the field of media education. 8. Positives and negatives of media action. 9. Media and virtual reality. 10. Analysis of media products.
