The main aim of the course is to broaden the knowledge of the basic principles of word-formation and improve the skills of practical application on a scale of different registers and contextual use. The course also focuses on developing relevant vocabulary knowledge particularly in the field of collocations, phraseology and idioms. Topic 1: Key terminology and word-formation principles; Basic methodological aspects of vocabulary teaching Topic 2: Characteristics of major and minor word-formation processes and their application Topic 3: Stylistic stratification of vocabulary and its contextual use from the synchronic perspective Topic 4: Systemic and textual collocations in theory and practice; Language corpus Topic 5: English phraseology and idioms and relevant didactic implications Topic 6: Lexicography in the study and teaching of English lexis
