The first part of the course focuses on British architecture, particularly the significant historical buildings of the last ten centuries. Equally, it deals with the influence of architecture on British social history and its irreplaceable role in shaping and reflecting the society and its national and regional identity. Each of the six thematic units is introduced with a documentary presenting the most relevant buildings of the given historical period. Having completed this course, the students should have gained an insight into the topic and broadened their understanding of British social structure and similiarities or differences between their own and the insular culture and society.

První část kurzu se věnuje britské architektuře, zejména některým význačným historickým stavbám, které vznikaly v průběhu posledních deseti století. Rovněž se zabývá vlivem architektury na britskou sociální historii a její nezastupitelnou rolí ve formování a reflektování společnosti a její národní a regionální identity. Každý ze šesti tematických celků je uveden dokumentem věnujícím se stavbám konkrétního historického období. Absolvováním kurzu by studenti měli získat vhled do problematiky, který prohloubí a rozšíří jejich chápaní britské sociální struktury a rozdílů či podobností mezi jejich vlastní a ostrovní kulturou a společností.

Distance learning will be taking place online, essentially in the form of interactive communication and via seminars and consultations in MS Teams. Study materials will be provided electronically via the aforementioned channels. E-mail communication will also be used in support of the previously mentioned forms.

Před absolvováním zápočtového testu student odevzdá kresbu architektonického objektu podle své vlastní volby, ideálně z geografických oblastí diskutovaných v průběhu semestru.
Zápočet má formu písemného testu, který zjišťuje základní obeznámenost s tématy probíranými v seminářích a zahrnuje i krátký poznávací test staveb, které byly prezentovány v rámci seminařů; minimální požadavek pro splnění je 70% úspěšnost v testu. Studenti mají k dispozici jeden opravný test.
