Contemporary France I is aimed at geography (Metropolitan France, overseas departments, specific features of French regions etc.) and demography (from the formation of the French nation to the present-day French society including the immigrant issue. The course has the form of seminars in which students participate in the designing the study programme. Students? papers are presented together with authentic materials and the students are lead towards improving their speaking skills and accuracy of their expression in the French language. The prerequisite is the thorough daily acquaintance with the current political and cultural events in France as they are covered in our media, and also the cable TV 5. The teaching is based on a comparative process enabling the better understanding of the French lifestyle and mentality of its inhabitants; the students? own experience is made use of as well.
