The course is focused on secondary literacy in relation to human health. It should provide students with a system of knowledge and skills that will enable them to critically assess health information with special regard to the issue of education. The issues of health and illness are discussed in detail, different perspectives on health and disease are analyzed in cultural and historical contexts. At the same time, the influence of education on the formation of health-relevant behavior of people is emphasized. The subject is based on the ideas of a European health strategy that works with the concept of health literacy as a condition for assuming responsibility for one's own health.

The aim of the course is to motivate students to active and informed interest in the issue of human health within the European health strategy. Students should understand the importance of widely conceived health literacy for the successful professional activity of the teaching staff as well as for the theoretical work in education sciences.

Zkouška formou rozpravy nad závěrečnou písemnou prací. Práce bude mít charakter studie na vybrané téma zdravotní gramotnosti, předpokládá se výběr dílčí problematiky relevantní k tématu disertační práce doktoranda.

1. Theoretical definition of the concept of health literacy.

2. Human health as a phenomenon and subject of interdisciplinary study.

3. Basic knowledge of the theory of health and disease - integrally anthropological approach.

4. Health status of European population as a starting point of health education.

5. Health and disease in education contexts, health education as a pedagogical problem.

6. European health strategy and selected program documents supporting public health.

7. Possibilities of measurement and evaluation of human literacy level.

8. Selected methodological approaches to the study of health literacy in the school environment.
