The course is entrance gateway to professional study of education. It familiarizes students with the nature of educational science and leads them to mastering of modern educational terminology. Attention is given not only to the basic categories of general theory of education, but also to selected questions about teacher's and educator's occupation, Czech education system and its perspectives in the european context. Emphasis is given to value orientation of education and its significance to humanization of education.

The goal of subject is to disclose modern theory of education to students, familiarize them with basic terminology and structure of field. Students should be able to understand general theory of education as a crucial modern scientific discipline, whose findings make up foundation for further study and practice in the field of upbringing and education.
