The aim of the course is to provide necessary knowledge of botany, especially general botany, molecular and applied botany with regard to the aims of the studied discipline. The course explores genetics analyzing various kinds of organisms: genetics of bugs, bacteria, plants, animals, human, etc.

1. Basic types and principles of heredity. Gender and heredity. Inheritance of qualitative and quantitative features.

2. Genetic information, genetic code. Replication, transcription, translation. Transmission of genetic information.

3. Recombination process. Mutagenesis (mutation, mutagens) and carcinogenesis. Congenital defects.

4. Genome and methods of its analysis (cytogenetic, molecular-genetic). Genetic engineering.

5. Genetics applied in medicine (genealogy, genetic counselling, genetic diagnostics; selected hereditary diseases and congenital defects, eugenics).

6. Genetics applied in agricultural and food-processing industry (basic methods of plant and animal cultivation, genetically modified organisms and foodstuffs).

7. Genetics applied in pharmaceutical industry (pharmacogenetics, gene therapy, targeted therapy).

8. Social, ethical and philosophic aspects of genetics.
