This is an introductory course to the civilizations which preceded Greek and Roman Antiquity (Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, China, the American continent). Historical narratives of the individual civilizations are interspersed with short summaries of economic, social and intellectual achievements of the relevant societies. Data on relations to cultures of the Czech-speaking lands are included wherever applicable.
