This course aims at acquainting students with the main tendencies and events of American history which are essential for understanding the development of American culture and civilization, beginning with the colonial period, through the establishment of a "new nation" independent from both British and overall European traditions in the 19th and 20th centuries, with an emphasis placed on the role of the United States in modern world history.
